Current Information:Age-27 38 Stephen's Road, West Ham Bully-Grenay Communal Cemetery, French Extension, France On 17th September, 1915, 17th London (Poplar & Stepney Rifles) of 141 Brigade, 47th Division, were in Corps reserve at Houchin in northern France with one party occupying trenches nearby. The enemy opened up a heavy artillery barrage on these positions and an armoured piercing shell hit the shelter where a platoon of D Company were taking cover, killing five of them, including Rifleman Neal. |
